PRESS RELEASE THE NEW SIMON MWANSA KAPWEPWE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OPERATIONAL
Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) wishes to inform its esteemed clients and the general public that the new Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport (SMKIA) located in Ndola, is fully operational as of Thursday 7th October 2021. Passengers are advised to use the new facility which is located off the Ndola-Kitwe dual carriage way near Ndola Girls National Technical School and the Dag Hammarskjold Memorial Site. The old airport, located in Itawa, will no longer be a commercial airport and will no longer be managed by the Corporation. The newly commissioned Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport has a capacity of one (1) million passengers per annum, three (3) aero bridges, a new Fire and Rescue Service Station, a Cargo Terminal, Business Complex, Aircraft Maintenance Hangar and an Airport Fuel Farm. In the near future, the airport will also house a 50 roomed luxury hotel which will be managed by a renowned hotel group.

About Zambia Airports Corporation Limited Zambia Airports Corporation Limited was established in 1989 through the amendment of the Aviation Act, Chapter 444 of the Laws of Zambia which has been repealed and replaced by the Aviation Act No. 5 of 2016. It is also incorporated under the Companies Act Chapter 388 of the Laws of Zambia. The Corporation’s mandate is to develop, maintain and manage the four designated international airports, namely Kenneth Kaunda in Lusaka, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe in Ndola, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula in Livingstone and Mfuwe and three Strategic and seven provincial aerodromes and the provision of Air Navigation services within the Zambian Airspace.
